Men’s Soccer Battles to Draw with Regionally Ranked Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (5-8-1) battled with regionally ranked Lafayette (7-4-2) on Tuesday night to a draw, 3-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lafayette got on the board during the fourth minute with a volley to Max Ippolito that was sent home.
  • The Hawks responded with a score during the 19th off a corner kick. Graduate student Aidan Watkins sent the kick into the box that was headed by senior Garrett Lyons over to junior Alex Hartmann for the header score.
  • SJU's second goal of the match came after Watkins sent a corner in that was headed by Lyons and then deflected off a Leopard and then into the net.
  • St. Joe's bumped its lead to two when graduate student Alvin Dahn touched a ball to senior Johnny Cunningham for a one touch finish.
  • The Leopards responded with a score a few minutes later after a move around a defender by Benji Grossi opened himself up for a shot and goal.
  • During the 64th minute, the home squad tied the game at three after a bouncing ball found an open Hale Lombard for an easy finish.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Hawks were extremely efficient with 9-of-10 goals on frame.
  • Cunningham's score was the first of his career.
  • Hartmann scored his second of the campaign.
  • Watkins, Lyons, and Dahn all tallied an assist.
  • Rookie Lars Haavie started the match and made three saves and allowed two scores.
  • Freshman Christian Matson (1-0-1) is credited with the decision after playing the final 65 minutes. He registered one save and one goal against.
