PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (4-8-0, 2-2-0 A-10) took #14 Saint Louis (8-0-3, 4-0-0 A-10) to a double overtime period, but fell during the 101
st minute of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Louis got on the board first when Alex Shterenberg found John Klein inside the box for a right footed score.
- After a long throw into the box, the throw was deflected back to graduate student Omry Perel who buried a shot past the keeper.
- After a deflection on a corner kick, SLU's Chase Niece recovered the ball 10 yards out and scored with a right footed shot to the right side of the net.
- During the 71st minute, Perel fed the ball to senior Bryce Wallace for an easy boot a few yards out to knot the game at two apiece.
- After 90 minutes of play, the game was still tied.
- Neither team scored during the first overtime period.
- Less than a minute into the second overtime, Simon Becher found Chandler Vaughn in front of the net for the gamewinner.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
- Perel scored his second goal of the season and dished out his fourth assist to sit second on the team with eight points.
- Wallace tallied his first score on the 2021 campaign.
- Rookie Lars Haavie (0-6-0) made five saves on the night.
