PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The 11th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team saw its 2021 season come to an end after the Hawks fell to #9 Liberty, 2-0, at the Bauer Track and Field Hockey Complex on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Liberty (18-2) earned seven penalty corners in the first half, but the Hawks defended them all and kept the sheet clean until the final 30 seconds, when Jodie Conolly sent a long ball forward that found its way to Charlotte Vaanhold, who chipped high into the net for a 1-0 halftime lead.
• Saint Joseph's (16-5) was on the front foot for a large part of the second half, earning four corners to just one for the Flames, but it was a counter by Liberty's Martu Cian that doubled the Flames' lead.
• The Hawks pressed for a goal late in the fourth, but could not get on the board before time expired.
