Funk Sets New Paycom Wooden Legacy Record For Threes As Hawks Hold Off Georgetown, 77-74

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Saint Joseph's Taylor Funk scored a season-high 29 points, including a new Paycom Wooden Legacy single-game record for three-pointers (eight), as he helped the Hawks hold off Georgetown, 77-74, Friday evening in the third place contest at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

How It Happened
• The Hawks and Hoyas traded baskets over the opening 10 minutes, with Saint Joseph's holding a 17-16 lead.
• Sparked by four straight free throws by Ejike Obinna, the Hawks put together a 12-0 run as a layup by Cameron Brown made it 29-16 at 6:20.
• Georgetown cut the Hawks' lead with a 5-0 run to make it 29-21.
• St. Joe's finished the first half on a 7-5 run to take a 36-26 lead into the second half.
• The Hoyas opened the second half with a 7-0 run to make it 36-33 less than two minutes into the period.
• Saint Joseph's responded with an 8-3 run as a jumper by Jack Forrest made it 44-36.
• Behind a 16-6 run, Georgetown took a 54-53 lead on a three-pointer by Donald Carey.
• Sparked by Funk's seventh three-pointer, the Hawks retook the lead, 58-54, with a 5-0 run.
• Georgetown responded with a 5-0 run of its own to push ahead 59-58 on a jumper by Dante Harris at 8:10.
• A Funk three-pointer began an 8-0 run as St. Joe's regained the lead, 66-59.
• The Hoyas battled to tie it up at 66-66, but Obinna scored four straight points to push SJU up 70-66.
• Ahead 72-69, Jordan Hall found Obinna for a thunderous alley-oop dunk that saw Saint Joseph's go up 74-69 with :48 to go.
• Georgetown chipped away to make it 77-74 with eight seconds remaining, and got the ball back after two missed free throws by the Hawks.
• Off the rebound, the Hoyas pushed for a game-tying three-pointer, but pressuring defense by Forrest never allowed the game-tying shot to reach its mark.

Inside The Boxscore
• Funk went 9-11 from the floor, including 8-10 from behind the arc, for a season-high 29 points.
• Funk broke the previous tournament record of seven three-pointers set by Evan Roquemore of Santa Clara and Penn's Jordan Dingle.
• Obinna added 17 points and finished the Paycom Wooden Legacy averaging 17.5 points per game.
• Hall was the third Hawk in double figures, adding 13 points, eight assists and five boards.
• With the win. Saint Joseph's improved to 17-16 all-time versus Georgetown.
