PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team opens the 2021-22 campaign inside Hagan Arena on Tuesday when Maryland Eastern Shore visits Philadelphia. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. as part of a double header with the men's basketball program.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Head coach Cindy Griffin returns for her 21st season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
- St. Joe's welcomes back 77% of its roster from a season ago, including 84% of its scoring.
- The Hawks' top four scorers last season return to the roster in 2021-22.
- Junior Kaliah Henderson is the Hawks leading scorer from last season with 11.4 ppg. She started 16 of 17 games last year.
- Graduate student Katie Jekot returns to the floor for the Crimson & Gray for her second season running the point. Jekot finished second on the team in scoring (9.6 ppg) last season and led the Hawks in assists (4.1).
- Junior Gabby Smalls sat atop the rebounding totals for St. Joe's last go around with 6.9 per game.
- SJU has five newcomers in rookies Talya Brugler, Laila Fair, Kaylie Griffin, Julia Nyström, and Mackenzie Smith.
ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE:
- UMES missed the entire 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and haven't seen the floor since upsetting top-seeded Bethune-Cookman in the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament on March 11, 2020.
- Nine players are on the roster from that last game, including two of the Hawks top three scorers from the 2019-20 season.
- Brooklyn Bailey averaged 9.5 points per game as the second leading scorer, in front of Amanda Carney who also returns to the roster. Carney notched 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per outing.
- Maryland Eastern Shore is led by 18th year head coach Fred Batchelor.
