Strong Second Half Lifts Hawks Past Richmond In A-10 Opener, 83-56

RICHMOND, Va. – Erik Reynolds II scored a season-high 17 points, Cameron Brown finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double, and Taylor Funk scored a game-high 18 points as Saint Joseph's opened its Atlantic 10 slate with a dominant 83-56 victory at Richmond on Thursday evening at the Robins Center.

How It Happened
• The Hawks jumped out to a 13-7 lead as Ejike Obinna and Brown combined to go 6-of-6 from the floor to account for all 13 of St. Joe's points. 
• Richmond took its first lead, 23-21, on a three-pointer by Grant Golden at 9:37.
• The Spiders pushed ahead 28-23, but the Hawks answered with a 13-2 run as a layup by Jack Forrest gave Saint Joseph's a 36-30 edge with 1:48 left in the first half.
• The Hawks extended their lead to 11, 45-34, on a three-pointer by Reynolds II just under three minutes into the second half.
• Saint Joseph's continued to pull away from the Spiders as a pair of free throws by Jordan Hall made it 62-39.
• The Hawks allowed Richmond to get no closer than 21 points from there as St. Joe's picked up its first A-10 opening win since the 2016-17 season.

• The Hawks shot 51.7 percent from the field (31-of-60) to match their season-high for field goal percentage.
• On the defensive side, St. Joe's held Richmond to 27.8 percent shooting (20-of-72), including 18.2 percent from three-point range (6-of-33).
• In the second half, the Hawks shot 55.2 percent (16-of-29) to the Spiders' 20.5 percent (8-of-39).
• Saint Joseph's finished with a season-best 51 rebounds.
• Funk led five Hawks in double figures with 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
• Reynolds II finished the night 7-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, for 17 points.
• The previous season-high for Reynolds II was 13 points, which he recorded four times.
• Brown collected a career-high 11 rebounds to go with 16 points and two assists.
• Obinna finished in double figures for the eighth straight game, adding 13 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the year.
• Hall handed out a game-high eight assists, scored 13 points and added eight rebounds.
• Forrest added six points and three boards.
• Thursday's A-10-opening win was Saint Joseph's first since a 68-63 victory over George Washington on December 30, 2016.
• The Hawks have won two straight over Richmond at the Robins Center.

The Hawks (7-5, 1-0 A-10) open the home portion of their conference schedule on January 5 as they host Davidson. St. Joe's was originally set to host George Washington on January 2, but that game was postponed due to health and safety protocols affecting the Colonials.
