AMBLER, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team opened its 2021 campaign with a 6-1 win over Coppin State at the Upper Dublin Sports Center on Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks took the early lead thanks to sweeping all three doubles flights to secure the first point of the night.

Nathan Perrone got things started in singles play, beating Dean Waterman at love in the top flight to double SJU's early lead. Graduate student
Johnnie Massart then put the Hawks on the brink of victory with a straight-sets win over Vansh Kapoor in the third flight.

Alex MacNeil secured the match victory with a win in the sixth flight after the Eagles' Christopher Green retired with MacNeil up a set. Senior

Luis Janko finished the night off with wins of their own in the fourth and didth sets, respectively.

"It was very important for the team to start on a positive note," assistant coach
Marc Pibernat said. "Overall, the guys displayed a great level of tennis and they showed that they came to compete and to play with good tennis. We have an important week ahead of us before our next match next weekend and it is important for the guys to rest well tomorrow and have a great week practicing and feeling good things on the tennis court."
