Saint Joseph's
Sarah Ostaszewski and
Taylor Marinelli each collected a hit in their home opener, but visiting Villanova prevailed as it topped the Hawks, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the SJU Softball Field.
How It Happened
• Villanova took the early lead, 1-0, in the top of the first on a solo home run by Megan Kern.
• The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third on RBI singles by Ryan Henry and Victoria Sebastian.
• Chloe Smith pushed Villanova's lead to 5-0 in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run.
• Saint Joseph's had its best scoring chance in the bottom of the sixth as Ostaszewski led off and reached second on a fielding error.
• Villanova kept SJU off the board though as the Wildcats got three consecutive outs to end the threat.
