Softball Dominates La Salle In Doubleheader Sweep

Behind a pair of dominant performances on both sides of the ball, the Saint Joseph's softball team swept its Atlantic 10-opening doubleheader at La Salle on Saturday with 12-0 and 10-0 victories, each coming in five innings.

How It Happened
Game One
• Kirstin Cox scored the Hawks' first run, crossing the plate on a sacrifice fly by Molly Kapala in the top of the first.
• Caela Abadie followed with a solo home run to push the lead to 2-0.
• The Hawks continued to add to its lead in the first as a single by Payton Baxter extended the lead to 4-0 as Jessica Gaughan and Taylor Marinelli scored.
• A RBI double by Jordan Hinkle scored Erica Lawrence as Saint Joseph's pushed its lead to 5-0 in the first inning.
• A solo home run by Sarah Ostaszewski extended the advantage to 6-0 in the second inning.
• A three-run home run by Hinkle and a two-run home run by Kapala made it 11-0 in the third inning.
• A RBI single by Abadie scored Cox in the top of the fifth to make it 12-0.
• Saint Joseph's starter Saige Stutz, who allied just two hits, worked around a two-out walk to secure the victory.

Game Two
• Ostaszewski scored on a RBI double by Marinelli in the top of the first to make it 1-0.
• Hinkle connected on her second home run of the day with a two-run shot that also scored Baxter.
• Kapala singled home to make it 4-0, while Abadie followed with a home run to push the lead to 6-0.
• Hinkle and Annabella Hawkins scored on a double by Ostaszewski to make it 8-0 in the third inning.
• Kapala singled home Ostaszewski in the fifth, then came around to score on a RBI groundout by Abadie to make it 10-0.
• Starter Amanda Herr, who scattered three hits by the Explorers, set La Salle down in order in the bottom of the fifth to earn the win.
