RICHMOND, Va. – Fighting until the final whistle, Saint Joseph's men's basketball team left it all on the floor Thursday afternoon as the 13th seeded Hawks took on fifth seed Massachusetts in the Second Round of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship. Despite finishing with four Hawks in double figures, led by rookie
Jordan Hall's 18 points, Saint Joseph's season came to an end as it fell to the Minutemen, 100-66, at the Robins Center.
How It Happened
• After the Hawks opened the scoring on a layup by
Cameron Brown, Massachusetts responded with a 13-3 run to open a 13-5 lead on a three-pointer by Noah Fernandes.
• Following a pair of free throws by
Taylor Funk that brought Saint Joseph's to within 15-10, the Minutemen answered with a 18-0 run to push its lead to 33-10 on a layup by T.J. Weeks.
• Brown found Funk for a three-pointer to get the Hawks to within 41-25 at 5:11.
• Massachusetts pushed back with back-to-back three-pointers to extend its lead to 46-25.
• Behind five straight points from
Dahmir Bishop, the Hawks fought back to within 49-33.
• The Minutemen ended the half on a 10-3 run to take a 59-36 lead into the second half.
• Massachusetts carried its momentum into the second half as it opened the period on an 11-0 run as Tre Mitchell capped it with a bucket inside to make it 70-36.
• A three-pointer from Hall and basket from Funk brought the Hawks to within 77-54, but Saint Joseph's would get no closer.

• Hall finished with a team-best 18 points and five assists to go with six rebounds.
• Hall capped his rookie campaign averaging 10.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and a team-best 5.7 assists per game.
• Funk, who finished the season averaging a career-best 17.4 points per game, scored 14 points on the afternoon.
• Brown and Bishop each finished with 11 points and seven rebounds apiece for the Hawks.

Ryan Daly finished his SJU career with seven points on the day.
• In his two seasons on Hawk Hill, Daly averaged 20.1 points per game, becoming just the fourth Hawk since 1947 to average 20 points a game for his SJU career.
• Daly, who scored 804 points in 40 games at SJU, joins Paul Senesky (20.7 ppg for 1947-50), Cliff Anderson (20.7 ppg from 1964-67) and Mike Bantom (20.0 ppg from 1970-73).

Jack Forrest returned to the floor after missing six games and played 12 minutes on the afternoon.
• Saint Joseph's shot 33.8 percent from the field (22-65) and 29.7 percent from three-point range (11-37).
• UMass finished the game 40-72 from the floor (55.6 percent) and 15-38 from distance (39.5 percent).
• Ronnie DeGray III led five Minutemen in double figures with a game-high 19 points.
