Saint Joseph's
Madison Fife went 6-for-9 with two home runs and seven RBI as she helped the Hawks to a doubleheader split with UMass on Saturday afternoon at the SJU Softball Field. The Hawks rallied for a 17-11 victory in the opener, but fell 12-9 in game two.
How It Happened
Game One
• UMass' jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first as both Bella Pantoja and Kendra Allen scored the first two runs on wild pitches.
• Later in the first, Hannah Bunker drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Amy Smith to make it 3-0 in favor of the Minutewomen.
• Juliana Shields followed with a RBI single up the middle that scored Caroline Deem to push UMass ahead 4-0.
• Payge Suggs made it 5-0 as her bases-loaded single scored Caroline Videtto.
• Pantoja drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-0 as Bunker scored.
• Shields came around to score the final run of the top of the first on a groundout by Kristina Day.
• Saint Joseph's responded in the bottom of the first as
Molly Kapala sparked the Hawks with a solo home run to make it 7-1.

Madison Fife and
Jessica Gaughan scored later in the bottom of the first as UMass misplayed a single by
Payton Baxter, allowing the two Hawks to score.
• The Minutewomen got a run back in the top of the second as Videtto scored on a fielding error by Saint Joseph's to push ahead 8-3.
• UMass made it 9-3 in the top of the third as Day scored on a ground out by Allen.
• Saint Joseph's rallied in the bottom of the third as the Hawks scored eight times to take an 11-9 advantage.
• Showing patience at the plate, Baxter and
Lauren Pscolka were each hit by pitches with the bases-loaded, while
Sarah Ostaszewski drew a bases-loaded walk to account for Saint Joseph's first three runs of the inning.

Molly Kapala got the Hawks to within 9-8 on a two-run single that scored
Nicole Bondoc and
Erica Lawrence.

Caela Abadie followed with a monstrous three-run home run to left to give Saint Joseph's its first lead, 11-9.
• The Hawks added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as Lawrence scored from third on a wild pitch, while Fife would draw a bases-loaded walk to make it 13-9.
• UMass chipped away at Saint Joseph's lead in the top of the fifth as the Minutewomen scored twice on a pair of sacrifice flies to get within 13-11.
• Saint Joseph's added four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with Ostaszewski starting things with a RBI single, and
Madison Fife connecting on a three-run home run to extend the lead to 17-11.
Game Two
• The Minutewomen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Day scored on a RBI single by Smith.
• Saint Joseph's tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second as Baxter scored on a double by Lawrence.
• A double by Abadie scored Ostaszewski to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third.
• Fife followed with her second home run of the day, drilling a three-run shot over the center field wall to give Saint Joseph's a 5-1 advantage.
• UMass cut into the Hawks' lead in the top of fourth as they scored two runs on a single and an error off a ball hit by Bunker.
• Pantoja followed with a RBI double to center field to bring the Minutewomen within 5-4.
• UMass carried its momentum into the top of the fifth as it scored three runs to retake the lead, 7-5.
• A double down the left field line by Smith scored Day to make it 8-5 in favor of the Minutewomen in the top of the sixth.
• Allen followed with a RBI single, while a sacrifice fly by Shields scored Smith to make it 10-5.
• UMass added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to go up 12-5.
• The Hawks fought back in the bottom of the seventh as they scored four runs to come within 12-9.
• With two runners on and the tying run at the plate for SJU, the Minutewomen induced a game-ending ground out.

Emily Siler picked up the win in game one as she allowed four earned run over 4.2 innings of work.

Ashley Stokes tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief to earn her first save of the season.
• Fife finished game one 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
• Kapala went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
• Abadie drove in three and scored twice, while going 2-for-5 in the opener.
• Fife was 2-for-4 with three RBI in game two.
• Baxter and Abadie were both 3-for-4 in the nightcap.
