RICHMOND, Va. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team headed to Richmond on Friday, where they fell to the Spiders, 6-1.

The Hawks started off with an early lead, sweeping all three flights to win the doubles point. Eshan Kanetkar and Nathan Perrone were 6-3 winners in the first flight, while Nickolas Frisk and Francesco Mowrey won by the same score in the second.  Alex MacNeil and Johnnie Massart finished off the sweep with a 6-2 win of their own in the third.

Unfortunately for SJU, the hosts took control in singles play, winning all six flights to set the final score.

"The team played its best doubles matches of the season," assistant coach Marc Pibernat said.  "However, we could not carry the momentum into singles play, where we started down, and first sets slipped out of our hands too quickly.  We are playing exceptional doubles, but that's only one total point, and we need to focus more and get stronger when it comes to singles, where we are struggling to find wins in competitive matches."

The Hawks return to the courts on Tuesday at Delaware.
