Baseball Earns Series Split with 11-3 Win at St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. – Brendan Hueth drove in five runs and the Saint Joseph's baseball team used a pair of big innings to top St. Bonaventure, 11-3, and earn a split of the series with the Bonnies at Fred Handler Park on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (11-8 overall, 6-2 Atlantic 10) hung a five-spot on the board to take in the lead in the top of the second.  With the bases loaded, Ryan Picollo ripped a single up the middle to score Brandon Drapeau with the game's first run.

• Two batters later, Brett Callahan drew a bases-loaded walk to double the lead; Hueth followed with a double to clear the bases and make it a 5-0 game.

• St. Bonaventure (4-13 overall, 3-5 Atlantic 10) answered in the bottom of the frame, scoring a pair on singles by Danny Mannion and Branden Myers.  Matthew Williams would add a sacrifice fly in the third to cut the Hawk lead to 5-3.

• The Hawks padded the lead in the seventh as a groundout by Callahan brought home Picollo, who had led off the inning with a walk, and a single by Hueth scored Luca Trigiani, who had doubled.

• SJU blew the game open in the top of the eighth, as Jake Artz hit an RBI triple, Trigiani added an RBI single, Hueth hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice, and Andrew Cossetti lofted a sacrifice fly.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Lucas Rollins started on the mound for the Hawks, allowing three runs – two earned – on four hits in four innings.  Luke Smith earned the win with two innings of two-hit shutout relief, striking out four, while Noah Weber notched his third save of the season with three shutout innings to finish it off.

• Andrew White took the loss after being charged with seven runs on five hits and five walks in six and a third innings.

• Hueth finished 3-for-5 on the day, notching another extra-base hit a day after hitting two triples in the second half of a doubleheader.  Picollo led the way for the Hawks with three runs scored; he and Liam Bendo each drew three walks in the game.
