MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team capped its regular season with a 6-1 win over crosstown rival La Salle on Sunday at the SJU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks claimed the doubles point with a pair of victories.  Alex MacNeil and Johnnie Massart were 6-3 winners in the third flight before Eshan Kanetkar and Nathan Perrone clinched it with a 6-4 win in the first.

• Perrone cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win in the first singles flight before Nickolas Frisk was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in the second.  Kanetkar then secured the clinching point with a 6-0, 7-5 third-flight victory.

• Massart pulled in a 6-3, 6-0 win in the fifth flight, and Luis Janko grabbed a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 supertiebreaker win in the sixth, to finish off the victory.

"Hats off to the guys for the way they came up to finish the regular season," assistant coach Marc Pibernat said.  "Another year finishing with a positive record and having important wins for the program.  I'm very proud of how the guys came together and overturned the downs of the season by competing hard for each other.

"The shoutout can only go again to the whole team for coming up the way they did, but especially to our seniors Luis Janko and Francesco Mowrey, who played their last match on Hawk Hill.  And a special mention to all the parents for the great support they have shown the team, and to Mr. Eric MacNeil, who is always looking forward to reading my recaps!"
