NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's senior attacker
Stephanie Kelly was voted the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Year, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon. Kelly is one of six Hawks to earn All-Conference recognition.
Kelly was joined on the First Team by graduate students
Bridget Cerciello and
Julia Pash, while graduate students
Sarah Platt and
Melissa Semkiw and junior
Lauren Figura were tabbed for the All-Conference Second Team. In addition, Cerciello and Pash were voted onto the All-Academic Team.
A native of Melbourne, Australia, Kelly leads the Atlantic 10 in goals (43), assists (38), and points (81). She has tallied seven points or more in five games this season, including a pair of nine-point efforts against Delaware on March 17 and La Salle on March 26. Kelly also posted a pair of eight-point performances in the Hawks' final two regular season games as SJU clinched its berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Earlier this season, Kelly became the Hawks' all-time leader in assists, and she currently sits second in program history in total points. As of the most recent NCAA statistics update, she is fifth in Division I in total points and sixth in assists.
Kelly is the second consecutive Hawk to earn the A-10's top honor, as
Francesca Donato was the league's 2019 Offensive Player of the Year and no award was given in 2020.
Cerciello earns her third career All-Conference honor; she was named to the Second Team in 2018 and the First Team in 2019. She posted three four-plus point performances and notched hat tricks against Duquesne and La Salle to go with a four-goal day at St. Bonaventure. Hailing from Center Valley, Pennsylvania, Cerciello also ranks second on the team in draw controls and sixth in ground balls.
Pash is the team leader in draw controls with 77 and ground balls with 32. Earlier this season, she became the Hawks' all-time leader in caused turnovers, and is also SJU's leader in 2021 with 20. The Allendale, New Jersey, product was previously named to the league's All-Rookie Team in 2017.
Cerciello and Pash also earned All-Academic honors; it is the third such recognition for Cerciello and the second for Pash.
Platt, a 2019 All-Rookie selection, ranks third on the squad with 13 caused turnovers, and her 17 ground balls tie her for fourth on the team. The Wynnewood, Pa., native joined Pash as the leaders of the Hawk defensive unit in front of the cage.
Joining the Hawks as a graduate transfer, Semkiw turned in an outstanding first season on Hawk Hill. She made double-digit saves seven times, including a season-high 17 as the Hawks challenged regular season co-champion UMass on April 25. A native of Frederick, Maryland, Semkiw is the only goalkeeper in the Atlantic 10 to stop more than half of the shots she has faced between the pipes. During her time at George Mason, Semkiw was named to the All-Rookie and All-Conference Second Teams in 2017 and the First Team in 2019.
Figura ranks second on the team and tied for second in the conference with 42 goals on the season. Having scored in every game she played this season, Figura, from Mount Laurel, N.J., came on strong toward the end of the season, totaling 22 points in the Hawks' final four games. She scored a career-high six goals at La Salle on April 11 before scoring five in each of the next two games against St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. Figura was previously named to the All-Rookie Team in 2019.
The Hawks are primed for the Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend, where they will meet top-seeded Richmond at noon on Friday.
