PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped its doubleheader at Penn on Saturday as the Hawks fell in a pitchers' duel in the opener, 2-1, and dropped game two, 7-1.
How It Happened
Game One
• The Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Brianna Brown scored on a groundout by Sammy Fenton.
• Saint Joseph's tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth as
Sarah Ostaszewski scored on a RBI single by
Payton Baxter.
• Penn responded in the bottom of the sixth as Julia Mortimer singled home Lucy Yang to make it 2-1.
• The Hawks were able to get two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but the Quakers worked out of the jam to preserve the win.
Game Two
• Julia Schneider scored on a groundout by Yang to give Penn a 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
• Sarah Schneider came around to score later in the inning on a single by Fenton to make it 2-0.
• The Quakers' Emma Nedley connected on a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 5-0.
• Saint Joseph's got on the board in the top of the third as
Ashley Stokes scored on an error by the Quakers off a ball hit by
Jessica Gaughan to make it 5-1.
• Penn answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to push its lead to 7-1.

Saige Stutz moved to 3-2 on the season as she allowed two earned runs on three hits over 6.0 innings in game one.
• Stutz, who also struck out four Quakers, went 2-for-3 from the plate in the opener.
• Stokes moved to 2-2 on the year as she allowed seven earned runs in 2.0 innings of work in game two.
• Stutz tossed 4.0 scoreless innings of relief in the second game.
• Ostaszewski and
Erica Lawrence accounted for the Hawks' two hits in game two.
