Saint Joseph's
Amanda Herr picked up her team-leading eighth victory of the season, while
Molly Kapala and
Sarah Ostaszewski each homered as the Hawks topped La Salle in their series opener, 5-1, on Friday at SJU Softball Field.
How It Happened
• Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third as
Jordan Hinkle scored on a single to right field by Ostaszewski.
• A single up the middle by Kapala scored Ostaszewski to extend the Hawks' lead to 2-0 later in the second inning.
• A solo home run by Ostaszewski gave Saint Joseph's a 3-0 edge in the bottom of the fifth.Â
• Two batters later, Kapala connected on a two-run home run to push the Hawks ahead 5-0.
• La Salle got on the board in the top of the sixth as Casey Walker scored on a single by Kaylee Piven to make it 5-1.
Inside The Boxscore
• Herr struck out a season-high eight batters and allowed just one run on eight hits to improve to 8-5 with the complete game victory.
• Kapala finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
• Ostaszewski was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
