Men's Rowing Opens 2021 Season In Competitive Matchup At Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team opened its much anticipated 2021 season this Monday with three competitive races at Navy.

"It was great to finally put on our uniforms and line-up against another team for the first time in two years! We had a mix of performances on Monday - a great battle in the 3V event but significant struggles in our 1V and 2V races," said Saint Joseph's Head Coach Mike Irwin. "We know there are going to be some bumps and bruises getting back into racing form. We got right back to work on Tuesday morning. There is plenty of speed to be found in Team #67 we just need to keep pushing forward!" 

How It Happened
• In the opening race, Saint Joseph's Varsity 8 of C Alexander Mayo; 8 Ed Lemanowicz; 7 Slam Dunkley; 6 Max Bernstein; 5 William Altier; 4 William Darling; 3 Rob Dougherty; 2 Joe Kelly; 1 Kjel Schlemmer got tangled up in the conditions early, but finished strong in a time of 6:46.0.

• The Hawks' 2nd Varsity 8 of C John Carluccio; 8 Nick Coppola; 7 Thomas Rigali; 6 Collin Petersen; 5 Ian Gallagher; 4 Jacob Vucinaj; 3 Gavin O'Connor; 2 Aaron Tully; 1 Harris Beckmeyer started off clean and finished the course in a time of 6:42.2.

• In the day's final race, the Saint Joseph's 3rd Varsity of C David Knapp; 8 Noah Pingul; 7 Ryan Trebel; 6 Jack Yeager; 5 AJ Oves; 4 Will Sims; 3 Cameron McNeill; 2 Owen Lyons; 1 Chris Nolan capped a highly-competitive race in a time of 6:27.3.
