AMHERST, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak halted as UMass rode a strong second half to a 21-12 win at Garber Field on Friday afternoon.
Emma O'Neill scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Hawks, while
Riley Evans added a hat trick of her own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Evans gave Saint Joseph's (6-5 overall, 3-1 Atlantic 10) the early lead, but the hosts grabbed the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead with 19:55 to go in the first half.
• O'Neill then tallied her first of the day and
Sophia Kolkka followed to put the Hawks back on top, 3-2.
• UMass (9-2 overall, 4-0 Atlantic 10) would get back out in front before Evans scored again to draw the Hawks level at 4-4 with 11:38 to play in the half.
• The Minutewomen took control at that point, scoring seven of the final 10 goals of the period to take an 11-7 lead into halftime.
• UMass effectively put the game out of reach with a 6-0 run to start the second half.
Lauren Figura and
Bridget Cerciello scored 35 seconds apart to stem the tide, but the hosts scored four of the next five goals to seal the victory.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• UMass outshot SJU, 37-26, and held a 20-13 advantage in draw controls.
• Haley Connaughton's eight points were a game-high, while O'Neill led the Hawks with five. In addition to O'Neill and Evans, Cerciello and Figura each netted a pair for Saint Joseph's; Cerciello also snagged a team-high eight draws.

Amber Weedon made 10 saves for the Hawks, while Lauren Hiller and Bridgette Wall combined for seven for the Minutewomen.
