Abadie Ties Home Run Records As Softball Completes Series Sweep Of La Salle

With a deep drive to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning, Saint Joseph's Caela Abadie tied both the single-season and career home run records as the starting first basemen helped lift the Hawks to a 5-4 victory over La Salle on Sunday to complete a series sweep of the Explorers.

Putting the Hawks ahead for good with her two-run blast, Abadie tied Christina Kowalski's program record for career home runs (34) and matched the single season-mark of 13 set by Sarah Yoos in 2016.

How It Happened
• A two-run home run by Madison Fife gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
• Natalie Rios scored on a fielding error by Saint Joseph's in the top of the third to bring the Explorers to within 2-1.
• Maddy Little scored on a RBI single by Victoria Zatko later in the second to tie the game at 2-2.
• La Salle took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fifth as Casey Walker scored on an infield single by Kaylee Piven with the bases loaded.
• A pair of errors on a ball hit by Molly Kapala allowed Kirstin Cox to score and tie the game in the bottom of the fifth.
• Abadie followed with a two-run home run over the right field wall to put the Hawks ahead, 5-3.
• Walker brought La Salle back to within one, 5-4, on a RBI single in the top of the sixth.
• The Explorers got the tying run to third base in the top of the seventh, but stellar defense helped the Hawks work out of the jam and complete the series sweep.
