PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to La Salle, 5-0, in the first of a four-game set at Hank DeVincent Field on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• It was a pitcher's duel early as Saint Joseph's (14-13 overall, 8-5 Atlantic 10) notched the only three hits over the first four and a half innings.
• La Salle (27-15 overall, 10-3 Atlantic 10) broke through in the bottom of the fifth as a single by Nick O'Day was followed by a home run from Will Binder.
• The Explorers extended the lead in the sixth on a three-run home run by Ryan Guckin that set the final margin.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Colin Scanlon was the winning pitcher for La Salle, tossing eight shutout innings.Â
Ian McCole took the loss, charged with five runs on five hits in five and two-thirds innings; he struck out nine on the day.

Brett Callahan reached base three times, hitting a pair of singles and drawing a walk, and stole a pair of bases.
UP NEXT
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday. The first of two seven-inning games is set for 11:00 a.m.
