BRONX, N.Y. – With one swing of the bat,
Caela Abadie broke both Saint Joseph's single-season record and career home run record, as the Hawks' softball team split its doubleheader at Fordham on Saturday at Bahoshy Field. Saint Joseph's opened the day with a 6-0 victory over the Rams, but fell in the nightcap, 7-1, to set up a crucial regular season finale with Fordham on Sunday that will determine the winner of the Atlantic 10 North Division title.
Entering the day tied for both home run marks, Abadie drilled a solo home run to left center field in the top of the fourth inning of game two for her 14th home run of the season and 35th home run of her career. With the deep drive, Abadie surpassed Sarah Yoos' single-season record of 13 home runs that was set in 2016, and moved past Christina Kowalski's '00 career mark of 34 home runs. Along with the home run marks, Abadie also set a new single-season record for RBI as her four runs driven in pushed her season total to 54, surpassing the previous record of 52 set by Danielle Cavone in 1995.
