BRONX, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's softball team captured the Atlantic 10 North Division crown on Sunday, and did so in convincing fashion as the Hawks topped Fordham 9-1 in six innings at Bahoshy Field. With the victory in Sunday's regular season finale, the Hawks also earned the second seed for the upcoming 2021 A-10 Championship.
Capping the season with a 19-3 record in A-10 play, Saint Joseph's finished atop the A-10 North Division standings and will enter the A-10 Championship as the second seed.
George Washington, which finished the regular season with a 23-1 conference record, will be the top seed for the A-10 Championship, while Fordham (third seed) and Dayton (fourth seed) round out the four-team playoff. Conference officials will announce A-10 Championship game times, pairings and location in the coming days.
How It Happened
•
Madison Fife gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a RBI single that scored
Sarah Ostaszewski.
• A RBI single by Fordham's Bailey Enoch tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
• The Hawks broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

Jordan Hinkle drove home
Carli Davy with a RBI single to start the big inning for Saint Joseph's.

Payton Baxter made it 3-1 with a RBI single that scored
Lauren Pscolka.
• Hinkle and
Nicole Bondoc scored on a single by
Kirstin Cox to make it 5-1.

Molly Kapala capped the outburst with a two-run single that scored Ostaszewski and Cox.
• Hinkle extended the Hawks' lead to 8-1 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
•
Jessica Gaughan singled home Kapala in the top of the sixth to put Saint Joseph's ahead 9-1.

Amanda Herr allowed one earned run on three hits over 5.0 innings, while striking out three to improve to 11-5 on the year.

Ashley Stokes tossed a scoreless sixth inning, striking out one.
• Fife went 3-for-4 with a RBI.
• Cox was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
• Kapala went 2-for-2 with a RBI and run scored.
• Hinkle was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
• Ostaszewski was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
• With 15 at-bats on the weekend, Ostaszewski moved into sole possession of Saint Joseph's record for career at-bats with 681.
