BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Four members of the Saint Joseph's field hockey team were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday as the organization announced its annual All-Region Teams. Sophomore
Anna Miller was tabbed for the All-Mid-Atlantic First Team, while seniors
Sara Hayes and
Jordan Olenginski and sophomore
Katy Benton were named to the Second Team.
Miller tied for second in goals scored and ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in points per game while leading the Hawks with six goals and 14 points. Hailing from Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, she was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on April 12 en route to All-Conference First Team honors. She was also tabbed for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Academic Squad for the second time this season, as well as earning her first All-Championship nod.
An All-Conference Second Team selection, Hayes earned A-10 Co-Player of the Week honors on April 19 after the Drexel Hill, Pa., native scored two goals in the Hawks' 5-4 win over UMass two days earlier that clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship. She added two more goals in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship six days later on her way to All-Championship honors.
Olenginski, from Mountain Top, Pa., posted a four-point game at La Salle and three-point efforts at home against the Explorers and UMass to earn Second Team All-Conference honors. She also earned her fourth consecutive NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and National Academic Squad plaudits earlier this season. Last month, she was one of the recipients of the prestigious Class of 1950 Award, bestowed upon the most outstanding student-athletes of the senior class.
Benton, who joined Miller on the All-Conference First Team, ranked fourth in the league in assists per game and tied for fourth in total assists with a team-leading four. She also added a goal to place fifth on the team with six total points. The Worcester, Pa., native started all eight games for the Hawks and played nearly every minute during the spring 2021 season.
The NFHCA will announce its All-America teams later this month.
