The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team wrapped up its 2021 slate with an 18th place finish in the Ten Eyck Trophy standings, organization officials announced this past weekend.
Overall, the Hawks earned 147 points total to finish 18th in the 30-team field. Finishing the season at the IRA National Championships, Saint Joseph's Varsity 8 finished the prestigious event 20th overall, while the 2nd Varsity 8 placed 23rd, and the 3rd Varsity 8 placed 11th in their respective categories.
"The journey for Team #67 to get to the 2021 IRA National Championship was long but incredibly rewarding. We made sure to take a moment when we arrived on practice day to appreciate the fact that we made it all the way to the final event of the season," said head coach
Mike Irwin. "Mother Nature had some final surprises in store on Friday and Saturday but we never let the wind and rain distract us from having strong races. Our Hawks were ready to fly in any conditions. We are definitely going to miss the senior and fifth-year leadership that guided the squad through the ups and downs of academics and athletics during a pandemic."
The University of Washington earned the 2021 Ten Eyck Trophy, capturing the title for an event-best 17th time.

About the Ten Eyck Trophy
The Ten Eyck Trophy pays honor and respect to James Ten Eyck, Syracuse University's revered and famed crew coach and is given by the Syracuse Regatta Association.
From 1952 through 1973, the trophy went to the university amassing the largest number of points in the varsity, junior varsity and freshman eights. Starting in 1974, all races counted in the scoring under a system adopted by the coaches of the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges. In recent years the scoring system has been amended so only three of the four possible eights from each school are reflected in the point standings.
The total number of points for each race will be divided by the number of crews entered and awarded accordingly. As an example, the varsity eight race carries the highest amount of points, 90. In the case of a tie, the team finishing highest in the varsity eight race would receive the James Ten Eyck Trophy.
