Mancini Scores First Goal as a Hawk in Men’s Soccer’s Narrow Loss at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Graduate student Matias Mancini collected his first goal as a Hawk Friday evening as the men's soccer team (1-4) fell narrowly at Cornell (2-1), 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Cornell got on the board during the 20th minute of play off a set piece from straight away just outside the 18. Tyler Bagley sent the free kick to the upper left corner for the score.
  • Into the second half, St. Joe's scored the equalizer after the Cornell keeper misplayed the ball. During the 66th minute, graduate student Alvin Dahn fed the ball from the right side of the box to classmate Matias Mancini in the middle for an easy empty net goal.
  • About 10 minutes later, Bagley served a corner kick into Matthew Goncalves for the eventual game winning goal.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
  • SJU took eight shots on net out of 14 total.
  • Cornell won the shot and corner kick battle.
  • Both Mancini and Dahn picked up their first points of the season.
  • Sophomore Luis Ludosan (0-1) made his first start of the season and racked up a career high nine saves. His two goals allowed both came off of set pieces.
