Hood Scores in Men’s Soccer's Near Comeback at Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Alex Hood registered his first collegiate point Monday night as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (1-5) couldn't complete the comeback against Rutgers (5-0-1) as it fell 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • At the start of the final minute of play in the first half, Ola Maeland beat a Hawk down the right side of the field and tip-toed the end line before finding Nico Rosamilia about six yards out for a score.
  • Fresh out of the gate in the second period, Rosamilia found another ball from Maeland inside the box for another goal.
  • During the 88th minute, rookie Blake Driehuis was on the 18 and found Hood about 15 yards out for Hood to send a shot to the upper ninety just inside the crossbar for the score.
  • SJU had a chance with a corner kick under 20 seconds to play, but the Rutgers' defense held steady.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
  • SJU outshot Rutgers, 14-13.
  • The Scarlet Knights held the advantage on corner kicks, 10-8.
  • Driehuis picked up the first assist of his young career. He now leads the team with three points.
