Men’s Soccer Picks Up A-10 Win Over George Mason, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA – After trailing by one in the first half, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (2-5, 1-0 A-10) scored three unanswered goals to pick up a convincing win to start Atlantic 10 play Friday evening over George Mason (1-4-1, 0-1 A-10), 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mason got on the board during the 20th minute of play as Balint Kocso converted a header when Linus Dahl placed a perfect feed into the box about six yards out.
  • During the 47th minute, graduate student Tevin Lessey headed the game-tying goal past the Mason keeper after a pinpoint service into the box by classmate Aidan Watkins.
  • The eventual gamewinner was scored about five minutes later by junior Chris Hunt. Hunt received another accurate service from Watkins and headed the ball in.
  • In the last minute of play, the Patriots pulled their keeper for a free kick to try and score an equalizer. The kick was deflected and caromed out toward midfield for graduate student Omry Perel who broke away for an empty net score.
 BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Hawks won the shots (17-13) and corner kick battle (5-4).
  • Lessey, Hunt, and Perel became the sixth, seventh, and eighth Hawks to score a goal this season.
  • All three goals were the first of the scorers' SJU careers.
  • Watkins' two-assist performance is his first multi-assist game of his career.
  • Sophomore Luis Ludosan (1-2) picked up his first win of the year after making three saves.
