PHILADELPHIA – In dramatic fashion Tuesday night, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (3-7) dropped a non-conference match to Hofstra (8-1), 2-1. Just eight minutes into the game, a storm came through the area, sending the game into a two-hour lightning delay. Play resumed at 9:14 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pride jumped ahead during the seventh minute after a service from Roc Carles found Ryan Carmichael in the box for a kick to the back of the net.
- Junior James Fletcher knotted things during the 32nd minute after senior Garrett Lyons sent a throw into the box that was headed to the keeper by a member of the Pride. The keeper deflected the ball to Fletcher's feet and he buried the rebound opportunity.
- Shortly after the half, Hofstra converted a set piece goal with a free kick from around midfield. Stefan Mason took the kick and put it into the box for Matthew Vowinkel who fed it to Mason Tatafu for the score.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
- Fletcher's goal was his third on the season. He now leads the team with seven points.
- Rookie Lars Haavie (0-5) made six saves in net and allowed the two scores.
