UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – 16th-ranked Penn State scored the game-winner midway through the fourth quarter as the Nittany Lions topped the Saint Joseph's field hockey program, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts carried the run of play through the first quarter but it was Saint Joseph's (2-2) that opened the scoring as
Manu Ghigliotti scored a minute and a half into the second on an assist from
Katelyn Cocco.
• Penn State (3-0) drew level with 32 seconds to go in the first half, however, as Emma Spisak scored on a corner.
• The Nittany Lions went ahead through Sophia Gladieux early in the third, but Ghigliotti notched her second of the day with four and a half minutes to go in the quarter to tie the game.
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Gladieux scored her second of the game with 8:30 to play in the fourth. The Hawks would get a corner as time ran out, but the Nittany Lions turned it away to preserve the win.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Penn State held a 15-11 advantage in shots, and earned nine corners to six for the Hawks. Both teams had seven shots on goal.
•
Robin Bleekemolen made four saves for the Hawks, while Brie Barraco made five for PSU.

The Hawks will host North Carolina and Rutgers, currently ranked #1 and #15 respectively, at Ellen Ryan Field this weekend.
