PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team grabbed the first win in their Atlantic 10 campaign on Saturday afternoon,
Omry Perel's goal and two assists sparking a 3-1 victory over Davidson at Sweeney Field.
The Hawks move to 1-1-1 on the Atlantic 10 campaign while Davidson falls to 1-2 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A mishap at the back gave the first chance of the game in favor of the Wildcats, Luis Ludosan up to the task to record a clean save.
- Chris Hunt got on the end of a dangerous Mikkel Andersen cross in the 19th minute, his volley traveling over the crossbar.
- Omry Perel opened his account on the season with the opening goal in 26th minute. Garrett Lyons won a header and put it on target, the Wildcat keeper punching the effort to the top of his box. Perel was waiting, lashing onto the bouncing ball and powering his volley into the top right corner before wheeling off in celebration.
- The Hawks soon went two goals up through a first career goal by Kenyatta Collins. The corner kick from Perel found the rising junior, towering over his marker before placing it into the bottom left corner.
- Davidson found one back late in the first half, the Wildcats being awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute. Denis Krioutchenkov slid home the attempt for his conference-leading seventh goal of the season.
- As the Hawks continued to defend the lead late into the second half, Davidson found itself on the ball and threatening the goal. Multiple half chances saw the resolve of the SJU back line tested, a call that was answered each attempt.
- After a cheap turnover from the Wildcats, Blake Driehuis found Perel in wide open space down the right side with less than a minute on the clock. Perel briefly turned to the corner flag to try to soak up the remaining time before eyeing an opening, cutting inside and firing a cross into the box. Driehuis was rewarded, diving into the header and flashing it to the near post as the Hawks would seal their first conference victory of the season with 53 seconds remaining in the match.
