Game Recap: Field Hockey |

#9 Field Hockey Falls at #1 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The ninth-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end as the Hawks fell to top-ranked North Carolina, 6-0, at Karen Shelton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• North Carolina (14-0) showed why it remains the nation's lone unbeaten early on, scoring three times in the first quarter via three different players.

• The Tar Heels added one more in the second to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.

• Saint Joseph's (12-4) had a much better second half, matching UNC with six shots and putting four of them on frame, but Erin Matson set up Ryleigh Heck in each of the third and fourth quarters to set the final margin.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Heck finished with a hat trick, while Matson had a goal and three assists for the hosts.

• Robin Bleekemolen made seven saves for the Hawks, while starter Kylie Walbert and Abigail Taylor combined for four stops for the Tar Heels.

• UNC held a 17-7 shot advantage in the game and earned six corners to two for the Hawks.

UP NEXT
Saint Joseph's will play its regular season finale on Friday when La Salle visits Ellen Ryan Field.  The Hawks will hold their annual Senior Day ceremony prior to the game.
