PHILADELPHIA – Omry Perel received the third Philadelphia Soccer Six accolade for the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team, earning Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The graduate student had his breakout game in a home contest against Atlantic 10 foe Davidson last Saturday, tallying a goal and two assist for a contribution to all three of the Hawks' goals in a 3-1 win against the Wildcats. The win tabbed the first of the year in conference play for SJU, moving them to 1-1-1 on the year.
Perel got the scoring started with a volley off a Saint Joseph's set piece, cleanly striking the attempt into the top corner after rebounding a save from a
Garrett Lyons header. The Israeli tabbed his first assist of the afternoon later in the match, a precision cross from a corner kick finding the head of
Kenyatta Collins who nodded in his first collegiate goal. After the Wildcats grabbed a goal back, it was on the back of Perel that the Hawks found the third goal with less than a minute remaining to all but ensure the victory. Perel found space after initially taking the ball to the corner flag, weaving past a defender before firing into the box where
Blake Driehuis was first to meet it, glancing a header past the Wildcat keeper.
With the goal and two assists, Perel moves his career tally to four goals and nine assists in his two seasons on Hawk Hill. He joins
Philipp Wujewitsch and
Garrett Lyons who have each won awards on the season.
Perel looks to lead the Hawks into two road games on the week, taking momentum into a clash with Duquesne on Wednesday evening before a road match at Massachusetts on Saturday.
