BALTIMORE, Md. – The Saint Joseph's softball team capped play at the UMBC Retriever Round Robin with a pair of contests on Sunday. The Hawks opened the day with a strong effort in a 6-1 loss to UMBC, and finished the two-day tournament with an 11-2 loss to Seton Hall in five innings.
How It Happened - Game One
• Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as
Taylor Marinelli scored off of a RBI single by
Jessica Gaughan.
• UMBC struck for six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fifth to jump ahead 6-1.
• The Hawks got a pair of runners on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't get runners around to score.
Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Gaughan was 2-for-3 with a RBI.
• Marinelli was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
•
Kayla Tauber went 2-for-4 with a triple.
•
Saige Stutz moved to 1-4 on the season as she allowed three earned runs on four hits, while striking out two in 4.1 innings of work.

Amanda Herr tossed 1.2 innings of relief, allowing three earned runs on five hits, while striking out two.
How It Happened - Game Two
• Seton Hall took a 4-0 lead in the top half of the first on a grand slam by Shelby Smith.
• The Pirates added to their lead in the second on a two-run double by Baylee Allender, and a two-run home run by Smith to make it 8-0.
• Marinelli connected on a solo home run in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 8-1.
• Lauren Caye made it 11-1 in the top of the fourth on a three-run home run.

Nicole Bondoc scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth, but the Hawks were unable to score any further.
Inside The Boxscore - Game Two
• Marinelli, Tauber and
Erica Lawrence combined for St. Joe's three hits on the afternoon.
• Marinelli's home run was her first of the season.
•
Emily Siler moved to 1-4 as she was charged with eight runs on five hits over 2.1 innings.
• Herr tossed 2.2 innings of relief, striking out one and allowing three unearned runs.
Up Next
The Hawks (2-7) head to the USF Tournament next weekend, February 25-27. Saint Joseph's opens play next Friday against Fairfield at 11:30 a.m.
