MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Rutgers, 5-2, at Smithson Field on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rutgers (6-1) hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the first inning to spark a four-run, six-hit frame and take an early lead.
• The Hawks got one back in the fourth after loading the bases with nobody out; two batters later, a
Brett Callahan single brought home
Brandon Drapeau to make it a 4-1 game.
• The Scarlet Knights restored the four-run advantage on a solo home run in the seventh.
• Saint Joseph's (4-3) got back within three on a leadoff home run by
Liam Bendo in the eighth and would bring the tying run to the plate with nobody out, but Dale Stanavich came out of the bullpen for the visitors and retired all six batters he faced to lock down the victory

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Stanavich earned his second save of the season while Garrett French recorded the win for the Scarlet Knights with two innings of one-hit, shutout relief.Â
