DAYTON, Ohio – The Saint Joseph's softball team opened its three-game series at Dayton with a 7-3 win over the Flyers on Friday afternoon.
How It Happened
• Dayton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Emma Schutter scored on a wild pitch.
• Payton Baxter tied the game for the Hawks in the top of the second with a solo home run.
• A two-run single by Kayla Tauber gave Saint Joseph's a 3-1 lead later in the second.
• A two-run home run by Madison Fife pushed the Hawks ahead 5-1 in the top of the third .
• Grace Gressly brought the Flyers to within 5-2 in the bottom of the third with a RBI double.
• Nicole Bondoc scored on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Jessica Gaughan to make it 6-2 in favor of Saint Joseph's in the top of the sixth.
• With the bases loaded later in the sixth, Fife was hit by a pitch, scoring Tauber to make it 7-2.
• A fielding error by the Hawks allowed the Flyers to cut the St. Joe's lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth.Â
• The Flyers loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but Amanda Herr and the Hawks' defense worked out of the jam to secure the win.

• Emily Siler improved to 4-6 on the season as she allowed two earned runs over 5.1 innings of work and struck out seven Flyers.
• Herr tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
• Tauber was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
• Fife was 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored.
