STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The USciences softball team was down just 1-0 to East Stroudsburg, a team receiving votes in the national poll, entering the bottom of the sixth of game one, before the Warriors broke out for four runs to ultimately prevail 5-0 in the opener on Tuesday afternoon.
East Stroudsburg would go on to win game two 12-4 in five innings to improve to 21-1.
Game One
Up until the sixth Megan Master had limited the Warriors to just the one run on three hits, all of which came in the first frame. She faced the minimum of 12 batters from the second to the fifth.
USciences had multiple opportunities to tie or take the lead, advancing runners into scoring position in the second, third, fifth and sixth to no avail, after having also done so in the first.
Abbigail Markee was the lone Devil to reach base twice as she drew two base on balls.
Game Two
Four errors doomed University of the Sciences, as seven of ESU's eight runs through its first three at-bats were unearned.
Back-to-back extra-base hits by Lauren Del Giudice (triple) and Gabrielle Simms got USciences on the board in the third, and the Devils added three more in the fourth on four hits.
Taylor Hamm led off with a single and after the first out was recorded, back-to-back singles by Danielle Jones and Kaitlin Thompson loaded the bases for Elizabeth Grant.
Grant doubled home two before a Del Giudice sacrifice fly made the score 8-4, but the Warriors led off the bottom-half with a home run as part of a two-run frame.
Simms led off the contest with a single as part of a 2-for-3 performance. The third inning double was the 24th of her career, now tied for third in program history.
