Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up Second Win of the Weekend; Defeats VCU, 14-7

PHILADELPHIA – Lauren Figura led all scorers with five goals Sunday afternoon as Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse won for the second time this weekend as the Hawks dropped VCU 14-7. St. Joe's advances to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in league play, while VCU falls to 6-8, 2-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period of play.
  • St. Joe's increased its lead with a 6-2 margin in the second for a 10-2 advantage at the half.
  • SJU bumped the lead to 13-2 with a 3-0 third stanza.
  • VCU tallied two scores to begin the final quarter to cut the deficit to 13-4. The Hawks scored one more and then the Rams finished the game with three-straight.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Figura's five points led all players and pushed her into second on the single-season goal list with 52. She's now five behind Jenna Martino's 57 in 2009 for most in a single season.
  • Emma O'Neill and Bonnie Yu each chipped in three points on two goals and one assist. O'Neill also won five draw controls on the day.
  • Maddie Yoder scored twice, while Julia Strobel netted one and assisted on one as both recorded two points.
  • Sophia Kolkka (1G), Lisa Ross (1A), Riley Evans (1G), and Maggie Davidson (1A) each contributed one point.
  • Jorden Concordia (9-5) picked up the decision with eight saves and a .571 save percentage. She allowed six scores.

St. Joe's will welcome George Washington to Philadelphia for a Thursday night game under the lights at Sweeney Field.
