Softball Splits Doubleheader At Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. – The Saint Joseph's softball team wrapped up non-conference play by splitting their doubleheader at Connecticut on Saturday. The Hawks won the opener 5-2, but fell to the Huskies, 1-0, in game two.

How It Happened • Game One
• The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Reese Guevarra.
• UConn extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Sappington that scored Lexi Hastings.
• Saint Joseph's exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead, 5-2.
Madison Fife tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run single that scored Jordan Hinkle and Kayla Tauber.
Kaelin Cash followed with a RBI double that scored Sarah Cancila to make it 3-2.
Hailey Malito extended the lead to 4-2 on a sacrifice fly that scored Karlee Smith.
• Cash scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Marinelli.
• UConn threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but St. Joe's Emily Siler worked out of a bases-loaded jam with a fly out to end the contest.

How It Happened • Game Two
• In a pitcher's duel, the Hawks had their best scoring chance in the top of the seventh as they got two runners on, but unfortunately couldn't get either around to score.
• UConn broke through for the game-winning run in the bottom half of the seventh on a RBI single by Guevarra.

• Siler improved to 11-11 on the year as she allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out five in the complete game victory.
• Hinkle was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
• Cancila was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Amanda Herr (5-5) was the hard-luck loser as she tossed a stellar 7.0 innings, allowing only one run on five hits, while striking out five.
Carly Rybinski went 3-for-3.
• Fife went 2-for-3.
• Hinkle was 2-for-4.
