PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse held off a comeback bid by Bryant, 11-10, Saturday afternoon to move into sole possession of first place in the NEC standings. St. Joe's moves to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Bryant falls to 5-5, 3-1 NEC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- St. Joe's ripped off three unanswered scores in the opening frame to go up.
- Bryant pulled within one at 4-3 after a 3-1 advantage up to the 4:35 mark in the second stanza before the Hawks registered two goals to the buzzer for a 6-3 score at the half.
- The Hawks increased their lead with a 4-2 third period to go up 10-5.
- After the teams traded the first two scores of the final quarter, the Bulldogs tallied four unanswered goals over a 5:39 span to pull within one with 31 ticks left. Zach Cole won the faceoff on a violation and the Hawks held the ball to run out the clock.
