DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team saw its 2022 campaign come to an end on Thursday as the Hawks fell to third-seeded Saint Louis, 10-6, in an Atlantic 10 Championship elimination game at Davidson's Wilson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Andrew Cossetti got the Hawks on the board in the second inning with a first-pitch home run to center.
• Saint Joseph's (29-25) tacked on two more in the third on an RBI double by Cossetti and an RBI single by
Brendan Hueth.
• Hueth then beat out a relay on a double play ball in the fifth that allowed
Jake Artz to score and make it 4-0.
• Saint Louis (29-23) got on the board in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Mark Vierling, but the Hawks escaped further damage via a double play ball.
• The Billikens would flip the script in the top of the seventh, however, scoring five times, including a go-ahead grand slam by Cody Jansen.
• Cossetti would answer with a solo shot in the bottom of the frame, but a sac fly and then a three-run home run by Vierling pushed the lead to 10-5.
•
Brandon Drapeau hit a solo home run in the eighth, and the Hawks would bring the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Jack Weber earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits in two and a third innings of relief.
Ryan Devine was charged with the loss.
• After his third-inning single, Hueth swiped second for his 53
rd career stolen base, a new program record.
• Cossetti's second home run was his 19
th of the year and set a new single-season school record, eclipsing the 18 hit by Deon Stafford, Jr., in 2016 that
Nate Thomas matched in Wednesday's game.
• Cossetti finished the day 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and three runs scored, while Hueth was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Liam Bendo added a pair of hits as well.
• The Hawks finish the season at 29-25, the third-most wins in a season in program history.
