LOS ANGELES – Saint Joseph's catcher Andrew Cossetti was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday afternoon.

A native of Eagleville, Pennsylvania, Cossetti was the 324th overall selection and is the first Hawk to be chosen in the MLB Draft since Tim Brennan was selected by the Texas Rangers in the seventh round in 2018.

"It is an honor and a blessing to be drafted by the Minnesota Twins," Cossetti said.  "It is the opportunity of a lifetime that I have dreamed about since I was a kid.  I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of Skip and the rest of the coaching staff at St. Joe's.  They believed in me since day one and gave me the chance to prove the player I can be."

"On behalf of the program, I want to congratulate Andrew for being drafted today by the Minnesota Twins," Saint Joseph's head coach Fritz Hamburg said.  "As Andrew said frequently, 'it's a great day to have a great day!'  Well, today is truly a great day for him, for his family and the Hawk baseball family.  I know his teammates, coaches, support staff, and our athletic administration are very, very happy for him for earning this opportunity.  He has been such a big part of this program over the last four years and today is the culmination of all the passion and hard work he's put into the game since he started playing.  We certainly look forward to following his professional career as we do with all of our former players that have played and are playing with a Major League or independent organization."

Cossetti set a number of records on Hawk Hill, including the program's career home run record, which now sits at 43.  He also set new single-season records this season for home runs and runs batted in, with 19 and 65, respectively.  He also scored 61 runs, sharing a new single-season record in that category, and reached base in a program-record 48 consecutive games dating back to 2021.

For his efforts, Cossetti was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's District 1 Player of the Year and earned a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association's All-East Region Second Team a year after being named to the All-East First Team; he is the only Hawk to ever earn multiple ABCA All-Region honors in his career.

A two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection and two-time Atlantic 10 All-Championship honoree, Cossetti was named to the watch list for the Buster Posey Award this season, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher.  He is the third catcher to be drafted out of Saint Joseph's under Hamburg after Brian O'Keefe (2014, seventh round by St. Louis) and Deon Stafford, Jr. (2017, fifth round by Pittsburgh).

"This only continues the storied success that St. Joe's has had with catchers," Cossetti said.  "Following in the footsteps of Brian and Deon is really cool and I'm thankful to have had relationships with those guys who have given me lots of advice along the way.  The moment came and I was with my mom and dad to celebrate; two people who have sacrificed everything to give me every opportunity to chase my dream and finally get one big step closer.  I am fortunate for the situation and can't thank my coaches, teammates, and family enough."

Cossetti is the 28th Hawk to be drafted by a Major League club and the eighth to hear his name called during Hamburg's tenure.
