Men’s Soccer Opens A-10 Play With Draw Against #17 Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio  – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team battled through a first half deficit to claim a point, drawing with #17 Dayton in the Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts saw a couple chances early on to try and grab the lead, but Luis Ludosan answered the initial tests with a pair of saves to match and keep the Flyers out of the net.
  • Despite a defensive resolve throughout the opening half for SJU, a moment of quality for Dayton saw the hosts take the lead after Michael Adedoken placed his shot perfectly into the side netting from 18 yards out to give Ludosan no chance at a save.
  • Early in the second half, the Hawks saw themselves facing a 12-1 deficit in shots. However, their second shot leveled up the score as captain Garrett Lyons tucked home past the Dayton goalkeeper after an Ariel Hadar assist in the 54th minute.
  • Alex Hood forced the first save of the game for the Flyers in the 76th minute, striking a strong effort to the nearside top corner that was parried away.
  • The Hawks fended off five shots in the final 10 minutes, including a vital save with under a minute on the clock from Ludosan to be able to claim a point on the road.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • The Hawks were outshot 21-4 on the night, a 10-2 disparity in shots on goal.
  • Ludosan tied a career-high with nine saves on the evening.
  • Four different Hawks tallied a shot each.
  • SJU was on the end of the ref's whistle for 23 fouls, compared to Dayton's 12.
  • The draw is the third time in the last five seasons that the Hawks recorded a result against a nationally ranked side, the first since a 1-0 win at #24 St. John's in the 2020 season opener.
