PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team found itself on the wrong side of a 2-0 score to Monmouth on Tuesday evening, spoiling the pregame senior night festivities that saw five Hawks recognized on Sweeney Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Prior to the match, James Fletcher, Alex Hartmann, Chris Hunt, Max Moyer and Omry Perel were recognized as part of the senior night festivities.
- Saint Joseph's found the early possession and opportunities, putting the first three shots on the board in the contest. Monmouth, however, was able to test the keeper first as Lars Haavie was called into action in the 25th minute to make the first save of the night.
- Alex Hood targeted the visitor's net in the 31st, his shot attempt gathered by the Monmouth goalkeeper.
- A friendly bounce for the hosts from the right post saw a Monmouth header just glance off before heading wide, while a Haavie save was nearly rebounded into the back of the net as Chris Morandi headed wide on the follow up in the 42nd minute, both teams settling for a 0-0 score heading into the break.
- James Fletcher and Blake Driehuis both forced a save out of Eryk Dymora in the early stages of the second half, but the Hawks were unable to find the back of the net on either occasion.
- The visitors found the breakthrough in the 75th minute, forcing Haavie into a beautiful outstretched save before Chris Morandi tucked in the rebound to give Monmouth the lead.
- Ben Zakowski doubled the advantage for the Hawks, sliding home a shot into the bottom left corner with only minutes to play to seal the victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Haavie made six saves on the night, while Fletcher led SJU with three shots. Ariel Hadar also recorded multiple shots with two.
- Monmouth outshot SJU 18-8 on the evening, tallying an 8-4 advantage in shots on target.
- Saint Joseph's earned one corner kick, Monmouth finishing the contest with two.

The Hawks close out a four-game home stand with a 2:00 p.m. matchup with A-10 foe Davidson. The Hawks are set for action on ESPN+ in the October 1 contest.
