RICHMOND, Va. – The 14th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team locked up a postseason berth on Friday night, rolling past Richmond, 4-0, at Crenshaw Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team was able to find the cage during the first quarter, but Saint Joseph's (11-4 overall, 5-0 Atlantic 10) broke through just over a minute into the second as
Erika Culp tipped a ball from
Sol Borensztein to open the scoring.
•
Hailey Bitters doubled the lead with five minutes remaining in the first half, scoring on a corner pass to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the break.
• Midway through the third,
Annabel Lindemulder padded the advantage on another corner, before
Kate Crist sent home a rebound in the fourth quarter to close the scoring.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Janelle Ward and
Marith Bijkerk combined for six saves in the shutout, while RIchmond's Kristen Rake made five saves for the Spiders.
• The Hawks outshot the Spiders, 15-13, and earned 13 penalty corners to seven for the hosts. All four Hawk goals came as a result of corners.
• The win clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship for the Hawks; the tournament will be hosted by VCU on November 2 and 4.
