Men’s Soccer Drops Road Contest Against Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Saint Joseph's men's soccer fell on the road on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 contest to the Davidson Wildcats in A-10 action.

St. Joe's falls to 3-10-1 (1-4-1 Atlantic 10) on the season while Davidson moves to 9-2-1 (4-1 Atlantic 10).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A little bit of luck came the Hawks' way early on, capitalizing on good fortune as a strike by Davidson struck the post and came back out.
  • Moments later, Matias Mancini was the first on either team to test the keeper as his low strike forced a save out of Wildcat goalkeeper Lou Liedtka.
  • It would be the Wildcats who struck first, as Luke Bryant played a pass to Davidson's leading scorer Denis Krioutchenkov who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
  • Bart Kooistra and Philipp Wujewitsch both tried efforts to get the Hawks back level in the first half, but Davidson's resolve stood as the hosts were able to take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • Blake Driehuis came closest on the other half of the break to level the score, but once again the Hawks were denied by Liedtka.
  • With just under 15 minutes remaining, Liedtka made his sixth save of the afternoon to deny Alex Hartmann from close range.
  • The Wildcats made the missed chances pay, a shot by Vincent Bennage in the 82nd minute finding the back of the net to all but seal the win for Davidson.
