Saint Joseph's begins its road campaign on Saturday as the Hawks take on the Yale Bulldogs. Saturday's tip is set for 12 p.m., with the contest streaming on ESPN+.
• Saint Joseph's is 3-0 all-time against Yale, including wins in the last two seasons over the Bulldogs.
• The matchup will be the first against these two teams outside of Philadelphia.
• With a win, it would be the first time since 94-95/95-95 that the Hawks won the road opener in back-to-back seasons.
MILESTONE WATCH
Chloe Welch, a graduate transfer from Davidson College, enters the evening just nine points shy of hitting the 1,000 mark in her college career. Welch sits second on the team in career points,
Bridget Monaghan eclipsing the mark during her four-year stint at the University of Scranton. The Colorado native scored 984 points in five seasons at Davidson, tallying seven points in her St. Joe's debut against Rider.
THE OPPONENT
Yale returned the top four scorers from last year's squad, and a total of nine of the top 10 scorers in 2022-23. Jenna Clark, who opened this season with 19 points in defeat to Pitt, led the Bulldogs a year ago with 10.9 points and a team-best 145 assists.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
The Hawks have a dynamic duo set in their frontcourt, shown in the opening day victory over Rider.
Laura Ziegler and
Talya Brugler combined for 41 points, nearly matching the entire Bronc squad (49). Brugler dominated on offense, going 10-11 from the field and a perfect 10-10 inside the arc for a game-high 22 points. Ziegler added 19 points of her own, matching a career-high 16 rebounds for her ninth career double-double.
HAWKS PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN A-10
Saint Joseph's has been picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10's preseason poll that was chosen by a panel of the A-10's head coaches. The Hawks earned their highest picked finish since 2013-14; the team that made the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
ADDED TWO ON SIGNING DAY
The Hawks announced two additions to their roster for the 2024-25 season, as Rhian Stokes and Meja Jägerskog signed NLIs on November 9.
Stokes, a senior from Ewing, New Jersey, is already a 1,000 point scorer in her high school career. Stokes is a two-time Colonial Valley Conference Player of the Year while being named to the Second and Third Team All-State. Stokes helped lead her team to NJSIAA Group 3 State Championship in 2022-23, scoring 17 points, grabbing seven rebounds and four steals in the 41-38 championship win. Stokes also helped her team to a Central Jersey Group 3 Sectional Championship and a Mercer County Tournament Championship in her junior year.
Jägerskog attended RIG Luleå on her return to Sweden after a brief cameo in the United States as a freshman at Chatham High School. Back in Sweden, Jägerskog has represented her country at the youth level. She played for the Sweden U18 team for the first time in 2023 after a successful stint in 2022 playing for her country in the U17 3v3 level. This past summer, Jägerskog returned to the States to play club basketball, working on her game with NYC New Heights.
