LEWISBURG, Pa. – Saint Joseph's remained undefeated after an emphatic 71-46 victory over Bucknell on Tuesday evening inside of the Sojka Pavillion.
St. Joe's moves to 6-0 with the win, Bucknell falling to 2-5 on the season.
FIRST QUARTER
- St. Joe's roared out to an 11-2 lead in the first three minutes, led by eight-consecutive points from Talya Brugler to start the game. A triple from Julia Nyström pushed the lead to nine, forcing an early Bucknell timeout.
- On the other end of the timeout, Mackenzie Smith made it an 11-point lead before six-straight points from the hosts to cut the deficit.
- A 5-2 run to finish the quarter gave the Hawks an 18-9 lead after 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- After both teams traded baskets to start the second quarter, the Hawks soon rallied to go on a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 22. Laura Ziegler got the run started, followed by a bucket from Brugler. Nyström and Chloe Welch then would hit back-to-back threes to force another Bison timeout.
- Over the final five minutes, Bucknell was able to cut the deficit to 37-23 entering the half as St. Joe's was checked to just two points over the final 4:55.
THIRD QUARTER
- Six points from St. Joe's to start the third quarter re-established a 20-point lead, Brugler grabbing her 14th point of the contest off a dish from Ziegler to extend the lead to 43-23.
- Moments later, roles would reverse as Brugler found a cutting Ziegler to finish at the rim. On the next possession, Brugler finished an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Hawks a 50-27 lead midway through the quarter.
- Brugler once again helped spark a 9-0 run towards the end of the quarter with six points of her own, St. Joe's taking a 59-31 lead headed into the final stanza.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Another 5-0 run awaited the Hawks to start the fourth, jumpstarted by the first basket of Aleah Snead's career.
- After scoring her first points earlier this season, Kaylie Griffin also added her first field goal of her career midway through the fourth.
- Joining the party, Lizzy Gruber also added her first points of her collegiate career towards the latter moments of the contest as the Hawks walked out 71-46 victors for the fifth-straight win on the road.
GAME NOTES
- Brugler finished with her third game of the season with at least 20 points, going 11-15 (73.3%) for 23 points. Brugler added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to her stat sheet.
- Ziegler added her fourth double-double of the season, 12th of her career with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
- Nyström had a season-high six assists in just 18 minutes of work, adding six points and three rebounds.
- 11 Hawks scored in the win, the team shooting 29-61 (47.5%) from the field.
- Ashley Solfikanich had a team-high 18 points for Bucknell on 8-11 from the field. The rest of the Bison shot 11-37 (29.7%).
- St. Joe's posted a 46-26 advantage in points in the paint.
- The Hawks move to 6-1 all-time against Bucknell.
