TAMPA, Fla. – Saint Joseph's
Sarah Cancila,
Meghan Sinkus and
Kayla Tauber each collected a RBI apiece on Friday as the Hawks' softball team continued play at the USF-Rawlings Tournament with an 8-3 loss to Illinois State at USF Softball Stadium.
How It Happened
• The Redbirds opened a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a three-run double by Jayden Standish.
• Illinois State added a run in both the second and third innings to extend its lead to 5-0.
• Saint Joseph's answered back in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs to make it 5-2.
•
Nicole Bondoc scored the Hawks' first run on a sacrifice fly by Sinkus.
• A RBI single by Cancila scored
Kayla Tauber later in the third to cut the Redbirds' lead to 5-2.
• Illinois State answered with a run in the top of the fourth and added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
• Saint Joseph's would score once in the bottom of the seventh as
Hailey Malito scored on a single by Tauber, but couldn't rally further.

• Cancila was 1-for-3 with a RBI.
• Malito was 1-for-2 with a double.

Riley York were each 1-for-3 at the plate.
• Sinkus collected her first collegiate RBI on the Hawks' first run scored.

Taylor Trowbridge moved to 0-1 on the season as she allowed three runs on two hits.

Emily Siler struck out five in 5.2 innings of relier, and allowed two earned runs on eight hits.

Karlee Smith tossed an inning of relief and allowed two unearned runs.

The Hawks continue tournament action on Saturday with a pair of games starting with a 9 a.m. matchup versus Boston College. St. Joe's takes on host USF at 4:30 p.m., with the game scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
