DURHAM, N.C. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team opened its 2023 season on Friday afternoon, falling to Duke, 16-0, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (0-1) put two on with two out in the top of the first after a single by
Conlan Wall and a walk by
Nate Thomas, but Duke starter Jonathan Santucci escaped unscathed.
• Duke (1-0) took the lead in the bottom of the frame on a three-run home run by Alex Stone.
• The Blue Devils tacked on one in the fourth, five in the fifth, two in the sixth, and five in the eighth.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Santucci was credited with the win while
Domenic Picone took the loss in his first appearance as a Hawk.
• Wall,
Brett Callahan,
Ryan Cesarini, and
Justin Igoe notched hits for SJU.
• The game was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
